Ransomware in the Netherlands: what gets hit
Dutch logistics, wholesale, manufacturing and professional-services companies often run Exact Globe or another ERP on SQL Server, with file servers and a VMware or Hyper-V cluster backed up with Veeam. Attackers encrypt the virtual machines' datastores and try to destroy the backups at the same time. The recovery question is then how much of the large database files, virtual disks and backup files the encryption really reached — which can be measured.
How a case from the Netherlands works
1. Remote assessment
Send us the ransom note and a few encrypted files. We identify the ransomware and measure how the files were encrypted — often within hours.
2. Files or media to our lab
Copies of the encrypted databases, virtual disks or backups are uploaded over an encrypted channel, or the drives are shipped to our lab in Dharmapuri, India. Originals are only ever read.
3. Recovery and validation
We recover what the encryption left intact and check it before handing it back, reporting plainly what could not be recovered.
Working with us from the Netherlands
Most cases never need anything shipped: copies of the encrypted databases, virtual disks or backup files are uploaded over an encrypted channel, or we work in a remote session on a machine you control. When drives or servers do need lab work, they are sent by international courier from the Netherlands to our lab in Dharmapuri, India. We send the address, the paperwork wording for customs and packing instructions before anything leaves you, and the condition of the media is recorded on arrival. Our standard hours, Monday to Friday 9:00–18:00 IST, are about 04:30 to 13:30 Central European Time (an hour later in summer time). Emergency requests are answered 24/7 through the emergency form.
Why encrypted does not always mean lost
To finish quickly, most modern ransomware encrypts only parts of large files — the start, or chunks at intervals. Databases, virtual disks and backup files therefore often keep most of their real content. Some of our measured cases:

In the Netherlands, a personal data breach must be reported to the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens within 72 hours under the GDPR. Can you work without our data leaving the EU?
Often yes: the assessment and much of the recovery can be done in a remote session on a machine you control in the Netherlands. If files do need to be sent to us, tell us your GDPR requirements first; we cannot give legal advice.
Our VMware datastore and Veeam backups are encrypted. What now?
Do not delete or rebuild them. VMDK and VBK files are usually encrypted only in parts. We measure each file and extract the virtual machines, databases or files that are still readable.
