Ransomware in Germany: what gets hit
Mid-sized manufacturers and engineering companies in Germany run production planning, ERP and often SAP on SQL Server, Oracle or HANA databases, with VMware underneath and Veeam for backup. An attack that reaches the hypervisor and the backup server stops production. German incident responders and IT service providers rebuild the environment; our contribution is the database and backup files themselves, examined at page and block level to recover what the encryption did not reach.
How a case from Germany works
1. Remote assessment
Send us the ransom note and a few encrypted files. We identify the ransomware and measure how the files were encrypted — often within hours.
2. Files or media to our lab
Copies of the encrypted databases, virtual disks or backups are uploaded over an encrypted channel, or the drives are shipped to our lab in Dharmapuri, India. Originals are only ever read.
3. Recovery and validation
We recover what the encryption left intact and check it before handing it back, reporting plainly what could not be recovered.
Working with us from Germany
Most cases never need anything shipped: copies of the encrypted databases, virtual disks or backup files are uploaded over an encrypted channel, or we work in a remote session on a machine you control. When drives or servers do need lab work, they are sent by international courier from Germany to our lab in Dharmapuri, India. We send the address, the paperwork wording for customs and packing instructions before anything leaves you, and the condition of the media is recorded on arrival. Our standard hours, Monday to Friday 9:00–18:00 IST, are about 04:30 to 13:30 Central European Time (an hour later in summer time), so they cover the German morning. Emergency requests are answered 24/7 through the emergency form.
Why encrypted does not always mean lost
To finish quickly, most modern ransomware encrypts only parts of large files — the start, or chunks at intervals. Databases, virtual disks and backup files therefore often keep most of their real content. Some of our measured cases:

Privacy and reporting rules in Germany
The GDPR and Germany's Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) apply to personal data, and transferring personal data to countries outside the EU and EEA is subject to specific conditions. Do you work in German?
Our working language is English. Reports and communication are in English; many of our German cases come through an IT service provider who handles local communication.
May personal data be transferred to India under the GDPR?
Transfers outside the EU and EEA are subject to conditions under the GDPR. We cannot give legal advice. Tell us your requirements first: in many cases the work can be done in a remote session on a system you control inside the EU, so the data is not transferred.
Can you recover a Veeam backup that Veeam itself refuses to open?
Often. When the metadata of a VBK file is encrypted, Veeam cannot read it, but the data blocks may still be intact. We read those directly and extract the virtual machines or files.
