Beast Ransomware Recovery: The Monster RaaS for Windows, Linux and ESXi
Beast is a ransomware-as-a-service that grew out of Monster, a Delphi ransomware first seen in 2022; researchers attribute both to the developer known as Hyadina. ransomware.live counts about 70 victim claims on Beast's leak site. In 2026 Symantec linked a newer family, GodDamn, to the same developer.
How Beast attacks and encrypts
Affiliates get in through phishing emails or exposed RDP, steal data for double extortion, and generate encryptor builds for Windows, Linux and VMware ESXi from the Beast panel. Cybereason's analysis describes the current Windows version as written in C, combining elliptic-curve cryptography with ChaCha20, encrypting files in segments with several threads, and stopping services and processes first. The encryptor also halts on systems it identifies as being in CIS countries.
Beast ransomware data recovery: what we recover
Segmented encryption means large files are encrypted in pieces, not completely. In SQL Server and Oracle databases, VMware and Hyper-V virtual disks and Veeam backups, the parts between the encrypted segments still hold real data. We map the encrypted segments and recover tables, virtual machines and files from what is intact.
Keep the encrypted files and a copy of them, do not reinstall the servers, and contact us for a free assessment. No data, no charge.
Veeam backups, SQL Server or Oracle databases encrypted by Beast?
Ransomware groups go after the backup repository first. A .vbk or .vib file renamed by the ransomware is often not lost: large backup files are usually only partly encrypted, and the intact blocks can be verified and rebuilt into the virtual disks. The same holds for SQL Server MDF and BAK files and for Oracle datafiles and Data Pump exports: the rows the ransomware did not reach can be read directly. In real cases we rebuilt a 466 GB server disk from a 43 GB Akira-encrypted VBK, and recovered 98.8% of the rows from LockBit-encrypted SQL Server backups.
