Some ransomware strains corrupt only a JPEG's header structure while leaving the actual compressed image data intact — but the corruption boundary rarely lines up with the JPEG's own internal structure, shifting the scan data by a few bytes. AS JPEG Repair uses a known-good reference photo from the same camera or app to find the correct shift and rebuild a working JPEG.
