Orova is a ransomware and extortion group that opened its leak site in early August 2026; tracking services first saw the name in July. By 3 November 2026 it had listed 57 victims (ransomware.live). 25 are in the United States, 11 in Hong Kong and 10 in Taiwan, followed by India with four, and Singapore and Malaysia with two each. Technology, manufacturing and healthcare are the sectors named most often.

The Indian victims were posted between September and mid-October 2026: two technology companies, a manufacturer and an energy company. Among the victims the group named publicly are Ultra Fame, a Taiwanese circuit board design company, and several US healthcare and professional-services firms. These are the group's own claims and have not all been confirmed by the companies.

What is known and what is not

Orova runs double extortion: victims are named on the leak site and threatened with publication of stolen data. Some security vendors describe it as a ransomware-as-a-service operation, but no detailed technical analysis of its encryptor has been published, so its encryption method, file extension and usual way in are not publicly confirmed. We will update this page when reliable research appears.

Orova ransomware data recovery: what we recover

No public decryptor exists for Orova, and none is likely while the group is active. Recovery without the key works from what an encryptor leaves behind: large files such as SQL Server and Oracle databases, VMware and Hyper-V virtual disks and Veeam backup files are often only partly encrypted, because encrypting every byte of a large file takes too long. We measure exactly which regions of each file were encrypted and rebuild the tables, virtual machines and files from the intact parts.

Keep the encrypted files and the ransom note, do not wipe or reinstall the servers, and do not run repair tools on the encrypted files. Contact us for a free assessment. We have solved many cases like this. No data, no charge.

Veeam backups, SQL Server or Oracle databases encrypted by Orova?

Ransomware groups go after the backup repository first. A .vbk or .vib file renamed by the ransomware is often not lost: large backup files are usually only partly encrypted, and the intact blocks can be verified and rebuilt into the virtual disks. The same holds for SQL Server MDF and BAK files and for Oracle datafiles and Data Pump exports: the rows the ransomware did not reach can be read directly. In real cases we rebuilt a 466 GB server disk from a 43 GB Akira-encrypted VBK, and recovered 98.8% of the rows from LockBit-encrypted SQL Server backups.
