Shiba Ransomware Recovery: A Small New Leak Site of 2026
A leak site called Shiba was recorded by Breachsense in September 2026 with a Thai food manufacturer as its first victim. After a quiet period it posted five more victims between 29 October and 1 November 2026 (ransomware.live), in Germany and the United Kingdom among others, two of them healthcare providers. It has no connection to the Shiba Inu cryptocurrency.
What is not known yet
No technical analysis of Shiba's tools has been published. Its encryptor, file extension and way in are unknown, and a group this small may be using an encryptor built from leaked code of another family. We will update this page as reliable information appears.
Shiba ransomware data recovery: what we recover
No public decryptor exists for Shiba, and none is likely while the group is active. Recovery without the key works from what an encryptor leaves behind: large files such as SQL Server and Oracle databases, VMware and Hyper-V virtual disks and Veeam backup files are often only partly encrypted, because encrypting every byte of a large file takes too long. We measure exactly which regions of each file were encrypted and rebuild the tables, virtual machines and files from the intact parts.
Keep the encrypted files and the ransom note, do not wipe or reinstall the servers, and do not run repair tools on the encrypted files. Contact us for a free assessment. We have solved many cases like this. No data, no charge.
Veeam backups, SQL Server or Oracle databases encrypted by Shiba?
Ransomware groups go after the backup repository first. A .vbk or .vib file renamed by the ransomware is often not lost: large backup files are usually only partly encrypted, and the intact blocks can be verified and rebuilt into the virtual disks. The same holds for SQL Server MDF and BAK files and for Oracle datafiles and Data Pump exports: the rows the ransomware did not reach can be read directly. In real cases we rebuilt a 466 GB server disk from a 43 GB Akira-encrypted VBK, and recovered 98.8% of the rows from LockBit-encrypted SQL Server backups.
