Ransomware in Hyderabad: what gets hit

Hyderabad's pharmaceutical and life-sciences companies, IT and software firms and hospitals run their quality, production and patient systems on databases — SQL Server, Oracle and others — usually on virtualised servers with backups on NAS or Veeam repositories. For these organisations the database is the business, and recovering it consistently, table by table, matters more than recovering loose files.

How a case from Hyderabad works

1. Remote assessment

Send us the ransom note and a few encrypted files. We identify the ransomware and measure how the files were encrypted — often within hours.

2. Files or media to our lab

Copies of the encrypted databases, virtual disks or backups — or the drives themselves — come to our lab in Dharmapuri. Originals are only ever read.

3. Recovery and validation

We recover what the encryption left intact and check it before handing it back, reporting plainly what could not be recovered.

Getting to our lab from Hyderabad

Hyderabad is about 700 km from our lab, so cases are normally handled remotely, with copies of the encrypted files or the affected drives sent to us by courier. If you prefer to deliver media in person, the usual route is a flight to Bengaluru followed by about three hours by road to Dharmapuri — by appointment.

Why encrypted does not always mean lost

To finish quickly, most modern ransomware encrypts only parts of large files — the start, or chunks at intervals. Databases, virtual disks and backup files therefore often keep most of their real content. Some of our measured cases:

We have solved 656+ ransomware and data recovery cases. Results depend on how each file was encrypted, and we tell you exactly what is recoverable after a free assessment, before you pay anything.

Reporting rules in India

CERT-In's April 2022 directions require organisations to report cyber incidents, including ransomware, to CERT-In within six hours of noticing them. If personal data is affected, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 also requires the breach to be reported to the Data Protection Board and to the people affected. This is general information, not legal advice — check your obligations early, because the clock starts when the incident is noticed.

Frequently asked questions

Can you work on our case without us shipping servers?

Usually, yes. Most ransomware cases can be assessed remotely, and copies of the encrypted database files, virtual disks or backups can be transferred or shipped instead of the servers themselves.

Our SQL Server database was encrypted. What can come back?

It depends on which pages were encrypted. In one case we recovered 96 million rows from 222 tables of a 27 GB encrypted database; rows on encrypted pages cannot come back without the key. We measure the damage first and tell you what is realistic.

Do you sign an NDA?

Yes. We sign a non-disclosure agreement before you send any data. Tell us your other confidentiality requirements at the same time, and we explain how the job would be handled.
