Ransomware in Kochi: what gets hit

Kochi's port, shipping and logistics companies, seafood and spice exporters, hospitals, hotels and the IT companies at Infopark run billing, export documentation and patient records on Tally, SQL-based software and database servers, usually backed up to a NAS on the same network. Ransomware that reaches the server usually reaches that backup as well.

How a case from Kochi works

1. Remote assessment

Send us the ransom note and a few encrypted files. We identify the ransomware and measure how the files were encrypted — often within hours.

2. Files or media to our lab

Copies of the encrypted databases, virtual disks or backups — or the drives themselves — come to our lab in Dharmapuri. Originals are only ever read.

3. Recovery and validation

We recover what the encryption left intact and check it before handing it back, reporting plainly what could not be recovered.

Getting to our lab from Kochi

From Kochi, drives can be sent by courier, usually arriving the next day, or brought by road via Coimbatore and Salem — about 420 km, eight to nine hours. Trains also run between Kochi and Salem. In most cases copies of the encrypted files are enough and no hardware has to move. Visits are by appointment.

Address and directions

Why encrypted does not always mean lost

To finish quickly, most modern ransomware encrypts only parts of large files — the start, or chunks at intervals. Databases, virtual disks and backup files therefore often keep most of their real content. Some of our measured cases:

We have solved 656+ ransomware and data recovery cases. Results depend on how each file was encrypted, and we tell you exactly what is recoverable after a free assessment, before you pay anything.

Reporting rules in India

CERT-In's April 2022 directions require organisations to report cyber incidents, including ransomware, to CERT-In within six hours of noticing them. If personal data is affected, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 also requires the breach to be reported to the Data Protection Board and to the people affected. This is general information, not legal advice — check your obligations early, because the clock starts when the incident is noticed.
